In the lawsuit, filed Friday, the Clintons say Trump lied to them about the contents of the suit.
The suit is one of several that the Clintons have filed since they left office in 2017 and are now seeking to collect $5 billion in damages.
The other suits are against Trump’s former aides and former associates and the Republican National Committee.
The lawsuits also accuse the Trump administration of obstructing justice in its attempts to defend Trump and the president.
The former president was forced to step down from office in January 2018 after the House Ethics Committee said he violated ethics rules by using a private email server to conduct official business while in office.
A statement from the plaintiffs said the suit is a “direct attack on our democracy.”
