MANHATTAN, Kan.

— A man is in custody after authorities say he stole a suitcase generator valued at $500,000 from a storage facility in Missouri.

A woman who lives in the home was awakened Friday morning by a noise from her backyard and went inside to investigate, authorities said.

She found two suitcases, one in a blue suitcase and the other in a red suitcase, with wires dangling from the top, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman called 911 and called police.

She told police the man entered the home through a back door, took the suitcase and drove away, according the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s department said in a news release Saturday the man has been charged with theft and tampering with evidence.
